I practised on the loom with some basic weave structures to see which type of yarns were most effective and whether a bolder weave structure worked better than a small, intricate one. From the testing I decided that larger weave structures were more successful.

Warp Yarns
I chose to use two different shades of green and two different shades of grey. One of the grey yarns is a fancy yarn to add texture. I also incorporated a fine silver wire into my warp.

Leaves
I wanted to look at different ways of making texture. One way I did this was by printing with leaves. It created a really interesting feel.

Artwork
The spray paint gives the images a sharp clean edge whilst also creating texture in the background from the uneven spread of paint.

Artwork
I began my artwork by experimenting with spray paint to see what kinds of marks and shapes I could create. I used the silhouettes of birds and kept the images quite flat and simple to give me interesting shapes, which I can then translate into motifs within my woven fabric. I also used chains and feathers to see how well the contrast of soft and hard worked together and whether this is a theme I want to continue through to my final fabrics.

Ateller Sul Mare, Sicily
This is an image taken from one of the rooms at the Ateller Sul Mare art hotel in Sicily. The room is called 'Lunaria' and features nineteen olive tree sculptures spaced out around the walls. I love the unique shapes of the sculptures and the marks on the wood. I am going to explore various ways of making interesting marks using different objects and materials.
Fox Hotel, Copenhagen
As part of my initial research for this project I looked at the Fox Hotel in Copenhagen, specifically focusing on the room seen in the image above, 'Play'. This room was designed by berlin-based artists Akim, Zasd and Bus. It has been created using materials from outside, which is a method often used by Bus. The style of this room has links with nature which is part of my visual theme for the project.

Color Palette
Following the change to the design brief I created my own colour palette. I am mainly focusing on metallic colours with a few bright, statement colours. I will probably adapt my colour palette when i begin weaving.
